Third & Fourth Grade

Using the knowledge and skills learned in K-2, students deepen and expand upon their understanding by engaging in a variety of learning opportunities that involve inquiry, research, independence, and time management. Students are asked to approach and solve problems in more than one way to stretch their developing skills. Meaningful homework assignments and broader use of technology are introduced to help students build routines, study habits, and practice using a variety of learning tools. Students utilize these strategies to further explore topics in literacy, mathematics, social studies, and science.

 

Language Arts

Third Grade

Reading and writing fluency and stamina Interpreting implied meaning and/or information Exclamatory, declarative, and imperative sentences Punctuation, capitalization, and grammar Writing to communicate ideas clearly - narrative and expository writing

Fourth Grade

Comprehension strategies for reading fiction and nonfiction texts Exploring mood, pace, and tension in texts Narrative, persuasive, and expository writing Responding to literature and other writing prompts Simple, compound, and complex sentences Spelling, grammar, and punctuation conventions Writing process - prewriting, revision, and editing strategies Organizing writing appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience

Third Grade	Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals Data investigations and analysis Geometry - polygons and angles Using graphs and tables Measurement - perimeter and area, temperature, and time
Fourth Grade	Fluency with multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Factors and multiples Place value up to 100,000 and rounding numbers Fractions and decimals Summarizing, comparing, and interpreting data Specific geometric terms, measuring angles, and polygons Measurements using standard units
