Welcome from Our Head of School

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about The Oaks!

I am excited to join a community that shares my values. The Oaks is a progressive  school focused on teaching children to think critically about their world and providing tools for and practice with leadership, dissent, and advocacy. The school sits on a busy street corner in a vibrant city, yet when you enter the gates you emerge in an oasis for children. The greenery, sense of safety, and nurturing space is the perfect place for children to flourish and prosper before emerging confidently into the larger world.

At The Oaks students learn about identity and difference, recognize social injustice, and develop skills of allyship and advocacy. Our students are unusually curious, open, and at ease. The program is rooted in progressive, innovative education theory where children are cultivated as learners and encouraged to engage deeply with meaningful content.

Each day, I see firsthand the dedication of the teachers and staff as well as the fantastically active engagement of families - together creating the joyful, engaging learning and social environment in which the children are immersed. Families here overwhelmingly share that both they and their children feel a strong sense of belonging at the school. This is often a goal for other schools but not usually a reality. We need places like The Oaks in our lives.
