About Us
The Oaks School is a progressive, independent K-6 school located in the heart of Hollywood. Since its establishment in 1986, the school has grown into a thriving K-6 school with integrated art, music, Maker, and P.E. programs. For the last ten years, The Oaks has developed and implemented initiatives to address diversity, equity, and inclusion and has incorporated an explicitly anti-bias curriculum throughout the school.
Fueled by the belief that the joy of childhood and the joy of learning can go hand in hand, The Oaks balances inquiry, creativity, and wonder in the classroom. The school’s child-centered, constructivist-based approach supports a range of learning styles and nurtures the critical thinking and cognitive skills of every student. Students learn early on that their voices matter and are empowered to advocate for themselves and others. Through the integration of disciplines, students are able to consider subject matter in-depth, explore multiple perspectives, and construct personal meaning.
With our anti-bias curriculum and warm environment built upon respect and inclusivity, The Oaks School develops compassionate young people who have the skills to emerge as a new generation of leaders in a multicultural world. Graduates of The Oaks School are thoughtful, engaged, and passionate individuals with a strong sense of self that are ready to thrive in middle school, college, and beyond.
As an independent elementary school, the curriculum at The Oaks is designed to develop each student's skills, confidence, and sense of responsibility for themselves and their community. A buddy system, weekly assemblies, and a range of school-wide events and performances help foster a strong sense of togetherness. In addition, this spirit of community is modeled by collaborative teaching in the classroom and strong involvement from families, the Board, and administration.
