The Oaks School is a progressive, independent K-6 school located in the heart of Hollywood. Since its establishment in 1986, the school has grown into a thriving K-6 school with integrated art, music, drama, Maker, and P.E. programs.
Fueled by the belief that the joy of childhood and the joy of learning can go hand in hand, The Oaks balances inquiry, creativity, and wonder in the classroom. The school’s child-centered, constructivist-based approach supports unique learning styles, and nurtures the critical thinking and cognitive skills of every student. Students learn early on that their voices matter and are empowered to shape their own learning. Through an integration of disciplines, students are able to consider subject matter in depth, explore multiple perspectives, and construct personal meaning.
The Oaks curriculum is designed to develop each student's abilities, confidence, and sense of responsibility for themselves and their community. A buddy system, weekly assemblies, and a range of school wide events and performances help foster a strong sense of togetherness. In addition, this spirit of community and collaboration is modeled by co-teaching in the classroom, strong involvement from the parent body, and a highly engaged Board and administration.
By promoting a warm environment of kindness, respect, and inclusivity, The Oaks seeks to produce compassionate young people who can emerge as a new generation of leaders in a multicultural world. Oaks graduates are thoughtful, well-spoken and poised individuals who develop a strong sense of self and are ready to thrive in middle school, college and beyond.
