Visual Art

Through the study of visual art, students develop creative and intuitive processes not always inherent in other academic disciplines.  Students learn to express the passions of the human heart, imagination and intellect through means of visual expression.  Our students gain insight into different worlds and cultures through our art history program which exposes them to images of historical and contemporary art.  In our studio classes, they are given the opportunity to dream, tinker and engage in a multitude of art experiences, which include sculpture, drawing, painting, weaving and printmaking.

Our art program is integrated into the core curriculum of the classroom.  When sixth grade students study ancient Greece, we visit the Getty Villa and create mosaics and frescos when we return. Our students gain insight and perception into history and culture by studying the art of past societies.  Art is a form of symbolic language, and our students learn to decode that language, and discern personal truth.
