The Oaks is fundamentally committed to community and service to others, and parents play an active partnership role at the school in the spirit of what is known as Joyous Participation. Parent involvement is highly encouraged to create a family-like atmosphere, and parents play a vital, active role in their child’s education in numerous ways. Parents may walk their children into class each morning and pick them up at the end of each day. Parents of young children are welcome to read to their kids, in classes K through Multi-Age, to begin the morning and ease the transition process. Parents may assist in the Library or in Studio Art classes on a weekly basis, serve as Room Parents for individual grades, and may even take a turn serving Hot Lunch. Parents are always encouraged to lend their particular expertise to the community, whether they enjoy carpentry, cooking or crunching numbers.
At the end of each school week, Parents, Faculty and Staff gather after assembly at Café Friday, to socialize with the Head of School, each other and with visiting guests.
