Board of Trustees

The Oaks School Board of Trustees plays a vital role in the success of the school. Its responsibilities include the establishment and protection of the mission and core values of the school. The board is also charged with the hiring, evaluation and support of the head of school. The board's largest job is to ensure that the school's finances are prudently managed by setting a budget, determining the cost of tuition, and overseeing the maintenance of school facilities.

It's also important to know what the board doesn't do. The trustees do not micromanage the education of the students. Nor do they make decisions about the hiring or evaluation of any employee other than the head. They do not make decisions about specific courses or curricula, nor participate in admissions decisions. Nor do trustees bring the concerns of a single child (especially their own) before the board. All of those decisions are within the purview of the head of school, working with the administrators and faculty.

In general, trustees try to make sure that The Oaks is well run, but they don't run the school. They must also do everything they can to promote the school's long-term success, not only for current families but for families who have yet to join The Oaks community.
